Unusual VASE - Florentine Crested China - Ushaw Moor Colliery ?

Got this lttle Gem off ebay, not sure what the significance of the Ushaw Moor crest is, maybe something to do with the Ushaw Moor Colliery.

"THIS IS  A PRETTY CRESTED CHINA VASE WITH 4 HOLES WITH CREST OF USHAW MOOR AND MADE BY FLOERNTINE CHINA"

Anyone any ideas ?

  2. Its a Florentine flower vase. A collectible that could be worth around 1,000 quid to a collector. Should maybe have the beehive emblem on the bottom.

  3. I have added photo of BASE, don't think it's worth much, only got it for a couple of quid. Its about 2 inches high, seems to small for flowers. The inside was very dirty, looked like it may have been used to hold pencils.

  6. I have a distant memory, I think these little souvenirs were sold in a newsagents possibly Malones in the late fifties and early and mid sixties.

  11. The use was purely decorative, souvenir/keepsake stuff. Possibly some people collected them from wherever they visited, like the stuff which has 'A Present from Blackpool/Scarborough' etc.

  13. Didnt realise it was that small. But the one in the link i posted shows they were sending them all the way to Australia. That one has 4 holes plus the main center hole.

  15. Just spotted an identical one on ebay with the crest of Odiham Hampshire, it too has the knight's head above the banner I suppose knights, crested banners and all forms of heraldry come out of the same ' tulip ' pot.

  17. Yeah I guess they produced for LOTS of towns, and pretty common, well I only paid a few quid,, and liked the look of it... No treasure this time :(
