Had some requests about the Ushaw Moor Coliery Banner.

Wondered if anyone knew of it's location ?

Is there any plans of trying to restore it ?

Wonder what sort of state it's in.

  2. Thanks for that Peter, no one seems to know "for sure" where it is.

  3. Well I last saw the banner in the parish hall about 2005 on the occassion of the funeral of Derek Isles, the banner was in good condition having been restored. Today I have been in contact with Bill Lough of the Durham Miners Association ( who own the banner ), and their General Secretary Dave Hopper. Mr Hopper states that the banner was loaned to the Ushaw Moor Catholic Church about 2003 and he is making enquiries to verify that it is still being held by the church.

  6. Just established that Derek died 2003 so I have obviously seen the banner shortly after it was received by the Church.

  8. Yes this morning I received a telephone call from Mr Kevin McMann representing St Joseph's Church who said the banner was initially being held by the church but has been moved to the Bobby Robson Centre.
