  1. Someone has done a great job enhancing this photograph, it was so badly damaged we did not really think it was worth posting. My brother Frank is extreme left, I'm the good looking one 3rd along and our late sister Gloria is at 7 - just a very few years before the invention of peroxide.

  2. Was great to receive the photo, it's still a work in progress, I still want to try and enhance it further this was just to get it "out there".

    Many thanks for posting.

It's wonderful to receive old photos for the BLOG, am sure there are more out there,, so no matter what the condition send them in or post them on the FB page.

BTW About what year was this taken ?

this little bridge provided hours of entertainment when we were kids when the river was high enough it turned the road in to a ford. i also did a lot of fishing a little down stream from here when i was older. many thanks for the memory. Tim Wood

  4. Best guess for when the photograph was taken 1952/53, I was born July 1946. I reckon Noodles may recognise some of the girls - Gloria was born 1940.

  5. This is Noodles replying, what a lovely photograph. Peter this photograph brings back so many memories. Back to the photograph Peter. I have a feeling that the girl on the extreme right is Madeleine Ramm, my late brother Kevin Mc Loughlins wife and the girl on her right is her sister Irene Ramm now Irene Carey and now living at Brandon. I am going to ring Madeleine tomorrow and ask her to have a look at the photograph and ascertain if I am right or wrong. I still cannot get over the fact that Gloria died. Your Grandma Turnbulls house was always full of life and laughter when we lived next door. Correct m Peter and add if I miss any of the family out - Percy, Harry, Peggy (your Mam) Maisie and Greta the youngest. Was there another son? See what memories a small photo can awaken. Thanks Peter.

  7. Hi Brian - I did submit the photograph but my wife Carole got the credit because of our email address. Yes the eldest lad was Jacky and the eldest daughter was Milly - there was also Kate - as I think you know Greta is still alive and well.

  8. Have just noticed that written on the back of this photograph is ' Margaret BURKE 58 Oakridge Rd Ushaw Moor Co Durham.' I was friendly with a John BURKE from thereabouts, presumably my sister knew Margaret and it would appear that this photograph belonged to her at some stage. Wonder if she is on it?

Lovely to see this picture. Noodles was correct, I am the one on the far end and I think Margaret Burke is second along from me and it looks like my good friend the late Anne Thompson is next to Gloria. Happy days.

  11. Greetings Christine. Nice to hear from you. That was a lovely house and we ived amongst great neighbours. Do you stiil have the Rayburn in the kitchen.. It was glorious to open the back door in the Winter and feel the heat meet you. I am glad to see I was right about Madeleine being on the photo but wrong about Irene her sister. Happy innocent days.

I am Margaret Burke third from the right. Its a bit of a shock to be suddenly transported back 60 years.I recognised you strait away Madeleine, what happy days we used to have at school and at play. This photo may have been taken by the box camera Bernadette Howath won at the Coronation Races, I came second and won a fountain pen. Bernadette didn`t want the camera so we swopped. If only I could run that fast now.My memory of names and faces from the past is`nt very good although some names are very familier.Do you remember taking a bottle of water and jam sandwitchs when we went out for a walk or on our bikes. We took water then because thats all we could afford, now it`s very trendy to carry a bottle wherever you go. Sorry to hear Kevin is no longer alive,I still remember him as a young man.I think the date of the photo is summer of 52/53

Hi Alf, do you remember getting me to stand in your back garden shaking a can to encourage your pidgeons home.I think you had gone off to release them and needed someone there when they came home.I obviously was`nt doing anything that day.I loved working at the co-op and Danny Humm was my great uncle, his mother was my grandfather`s sister .Danny was a really lovely man and you were right, his wife was called Ivy.They lived at 9 Durham Rd opposite the co-op. In case I forgot--- thanks for the lift to Filey. Best wishes to you. margaret

  18. My name is Mike Copple and I went to St. Josephs, Ushaw Moor until 1955 when I returned to my family in Salford, Manchester. I lived with my grandparents Bill and Honor Linskey at Bearpark. I also used to play at the bridge and fish for tiddlers in the beck with my cousins, the Kerwins from Station Road at the time the photo was taken. There was Ann, Jean, Edward and John Kerwin. We also had relatives at Broompark that we visited from time to time. I was in the same class as Kevin Mc Loughlin I believe and am on the school photo where my name is misspelt with a k instead of a c. Sorry to hear about Kevin. Kind regards to all at Ushaw Moor and Bearpark.

  19. Two young lads with the jazzy jumpers, any suggestions, they are obviously brothers playing with me and my brother but afraid the sixty years has numbed my memory. Any guess's will do.
