  3. Hello Alf, I am Peter the brother of Frank. Greta & John Ramm were indeed our aunt and uncle. Unfortunately John died in recent years, Greta is however well and living in South Tyneside. I have spoken with her and she would love to speak with George, she tells me that she has a photograph of George taken in the Middle East when he was a 'para'., she confirms that George and John were great friends. Perhaps you have a telephone number for George which I could pass on to Greta. My phone number is 01429 266854.

Sad to know John Ramm's died. He was a very good friend & my great regret is that we'd not kept in touch after our spell in the forces. I'm delighted that Alf's suggestion to post a comment has resulted in a 'hit' so soon. Will phone now & try to contact Greta. Thanks, George

  7. Hello again Alf, Update..... Greta has telephoned Meika, George was out on his bike at the time so arrangements were made for Greta to ring back Monday. Do I remember The Colliery? Well we left there on 15th July 1948, thirteen days short of my second birthday so although I do recall some things, very little. My gran lived at 10 William St. which I believe was next door to you with the Snaiths a couple of doors down. I was born at 18 Albert St and then moved to 16 George St. I best remember my aunty Eva as I always called her, from Whitehouse Court. As a child I was told, how at The Colliery, aunty Eva had saved my life. Somehow a 'pop' bottle stopper had become wedged in my throat, my mother, in a state of panic, had carried me next door where aunty Eva somehow dislodged it. Forever gratefull. Greta sends her regards. Peter Clarke.

  8. Hi Peter, Great news for George. I was born in 11 East Street then moved to 15 George Street . I am still not sure if the were Terraces not streets, I will check this out. I am sure we lived next door to you and I can remember Pamela your cousin coming to see you , I think she came from Wallsend. I know Gloria and Sylvia Halpin used to got to see Pamela in the early 60's and when I was promoted with the Prudential to North Shields I met Pamela again. I think it was 1970 in the Monkseaton Arms, Monkseaton she was with Chris Langford who used to sing on the 1 O'clock show on Tyne Tees TV. Pam was a TSB Manager. Then we had a shop in Percy Park Road, Tynemouth and her Mam & Dad lived nearby. Percy Turnbull's son married my cousin Betty Harrison daughter near Ollerton, Notts so we are nearly related. Nice to here about my mother, she died here in Tynemouth in 1991
a great loss.I hope everyone is keeping well. Cheers, Alf R

  9. Thanks for that Alf, I still have our national registration identity cards which show the addresses where we lived as William st., Albert St., and George Street. You can see however on the DCC GIS historical mapping that it is East and West Terrace. Cheers Peter Clarke.

  10. They chattered and chattered for two and a half hours and names which surfaced were Nora JACKSON, Jacky WATSON, Billy NATRASS, Barbara SHUKER ,who married George a cricketer, Angela WILSON, George GRAHAM, Phylis Mountain, Ruby MAWSON, Noreen DIXON and Dorothy ELLIOT ( there may be an Esh Winning name amongst them). None of these names means anything to me. As alf said, " great for George and Greta".
