An End Of An Era For Wilf Bell
I began posting articles on to the Ushaw Moor site back in April 2006. Since then I suppose that I have written something like 28,000 words about my beloved Deerness Valley and have enjoyed doing so. Ofcourse all good things have to come to an end and that is what is about to happen - just a few more words to go. I know from feedback that at least a handful of you have enjoyed the articles and that makes me feel good. Although we all have to live in the present and plan for the future - it can be fun looking back - can it not?! Thank you all. I will now hand back to Paul Clough; I owe a debt of gratitude to him for making his wonderful site so readily available.

Hi Wilf, I am surprised to read that you are giving up writing on this site, don't do it, as a lot of us will miss your aricles. YOU have kept this site alive and I always look to see what you write, it is always interesting. You have mentioned Unthank Tce, New Brancepeth, well I started work in the Co-op there in 1954 and I can still remember things very well, you also mentioned Whitehouse Court, Ushaw Moor I lived in 25 before moving to 14 Oakridge Road. I got married in 1960 and moved to 6 Prospect tce, New Brancepeth then back to 10 Temperance Tce Ushaw Moor where my daughter started the same school that I started in 1944. I left the Brandon & New Brancepeth Co-op to work for the Prudential (1963) then moved to Merry Oaks, Durham then to Tynemouth in 1970. I can go on and on but Wilf you MUST not "pack in" writing on this site. Cheers, Alf Rothwell
