A Match In The Dark

Let's start with Norman Pickles - since corrected - Nicholson not Pickles -. He married my great aunt Ada. He was her second husband  - her first - Harold Swift, fell down the pit shaft at New Brancepeth Colliery. Norman lived in Bearpark at one time. So does anyone know anything about Norman?

And what about a local professional boxer [1920s] called Rose? He lived in Ushaw Moor at one time. Good boxer? Big family? Small family?

Last call for the Ushaw Moor Modern 1959/60 football team photograph. To clarify - first team not intermediate side. Has anyone got a copy? This is the third request for that so perhaps it's in the dustbin of history.

  1. Harold Swift is a close relative on my family tree.
I guess not much use though.

    Hi Wilf.
You mention the dustbin of history.?? I believe there are most likely many old photos out there but also many elderly people like ourselves that have not bothered to use a computer so therefore never get to read your posts or anyone's post for that matter.
I have many friends and family that do not have a computer and have no interest in computers. Less than 1% in the age bracket of 70 to 80 own a computer or a mobile phone.
Is it at all possible to reach these people any other way. ?-perhaps a simple flyer delivered into letter boxes or posted on appropriate public notice boards in Ushaw Moor.??
I would love to assist in finding these old photos -in particular-of the old village of Broompark but it is hard being here in Australia. But i am interested in purchasing any old photos of Broompark if they can be found.

  3. Thanks Graham. I am told that Ada's marriage to Harold was a very good one.I have mentioned Harold before - 1940, I think, was when he died.

Ada married Norman Nicholson, not Norman Pickles...

Sorry about the short reply, Wilf, I've been having trouble commenting, hence the tests by Paul. Harold Swift (1895 - 1940) married Ada Dodds (1899 - 1962) in 1919, and Ada was remarried to Norman Nicholson (probably 1913 - 1977) in 1944. Just a bit of family history to put you right...
