This Bristol LS5G with an ECW B45F body was in service with United Automobile Services Limited. Service 44 from Ushaw Moor is heading into Durham City via Neville's Cross and just leaving the (old) A1 at this point.

  3. I remember those buses as i had to catch them to school and back. It states heading for Durham via Nevilles cross.? So was this bus going past Broompark and then turned right at stone bridge to go to Nevilles Cross or did it use another route past Brandon and approach Nevilles Cross that way.

  4. This service number left East Hedley Hope or Hamilton Row and passed through Waterhouses, Esh Winning, Ushaw Moor Colliery, Ushaw Moor, Broompark then turned left at Stone Bridge Straight over the traffic lights at Nevilles Cross then down the Peth into the City and when I used the service its terminus was the old Bus Station on North Road next to the the old Neville pub. Used it hundreds of times for work and pleasure.

  5. Strange, looks like this service has come along passed the Pot n Glass pub going south on the old A1 before turning left to go down into the City, which would mean it didn't go near Stonebridge... Maybe a service change.

  6. The number 43 used to go past the Pot & glass. So it seems strange to see the no 44 coming that way.

  7. Sorry my mistake. i thought nevilles cross was to the right from stonebridge - so what was to the right.?

  8. That would be Langley Moor, Meadowfield :)

  9. Perhaps the reason for this photograph was that someone spotted and snapped the 44 going the wrong way, otherwise rather an odd photograph for anyone to take.

  11. Langley moor. Thanks for the heads up and sorry i am behind as i left there so young.
Our family walks often went in bizarre directions from Broompark and from the back track from the village it was often down the track leading over the rail bridge then down to the beck and uphill to the other side. We then walked left to the next main road and then left again which must have taken us through Langley park and then again to stonebridge where we turned left again to get home.

  12. The vehicle behind the bus should give a better time space.
I am an enthusiast of vintage cars and first thought a mini.
Now thinking a Hillman Minx at probably 1964 vintage?? Can we get a better resolution photo.?

  17. Yeah, i did zoom on it and saw it was a mini but never commented because theres a bit of a mix up with them as in years between UK and OZ. Also morris made them but in UK i think it might have been Leyland also. But guessing a 1960 vintage.

  18. Iunderstand your confusion Ron they were released in 1959 by both Austin and Morris who were later taken over by British leyland
