What a lovely photograph Ronnie, this says more than any words can of the Broompark of this era, I have one of my late sister and I taken at Ushaw Colliery about 1947, must post it on the site.. You were asking about WB, well we were youngsters and close neighboures in the 1950's, I left the village in 1960 and Wilf did a couple of years later..We would all love to hear what you have been up to since your deportation to the colonies in the early 60s. Kind regards Peter Clarke
Maybe i will get around to that later when the ushaw Moor memories start to slow down. At the moment i am enjoying the fact that i am making contact with some from my era. What i will say is that the education system in the UK and Australia were structured the same and when i arrived they could not figure out what to do with me and other kids due to the fact that one big difference was that in the UK we started school the year we turned 4 whereas in Australia they started school the year they turn 5. So when they checked my school reports they realised they couldnt put me in the class for my age group as i had already done the study and passed 11 +. They considered putting me up a class but again i was then going to be behind as i had lost a few weeks from the journey. So they decided the best option was that we had the year off and then start in the next year. So here i was in this ex military camp on the banks of the magnificent Swan river and a walk to the port of Fremantle and beaches. And on a nine months holiday LOL.
I have a photo of you Ronny Nightingale. It was taken just after your First Holy Communion at St. Josephs, Ushaw Moor and shows you, Dennis Campbell and my brother Brian Fehily. I can remember you in Broompark and your sisterTheresa too, before you left to emigrate. I also remember the Turners and their daughter who I think was called Josie. my name was Patsy Fehily.
Would love to see that photo Patsy. The names ring a bell but i cannot put a picture in my head. There were 2 turner familys in broompark. Albert and Agnes (Senior) and Albert and dorothy (son and daughter in law). That was my Grandparents and my uncle and Aunt. Josie was Albert and Agnes, daughter and my mothers sister. Theres a lot more info on my other posts here.
Hello yes I remember your mum &dad if I had a pound for every time their names were mentioned we were over in Durham in September I hired a car I did not know broom park how are you all thanks for getting in touch pat neary
hello again Patrick. you were always called Patrick by us and your dad was Pat. All the Fehily's are kinda dispersed now, there is only me near our old home, in fact I can see the new version of Broompark from my bedroom windows at Nevilles Cross. Bryan is in Lincoln, Peter in Lichfield and Pauline (Pol) and Eileen are in Surrey. Is Marian living in Ireland too? I have found a photograph of our dad's with several others in the Loves Hotel. I don't know all the other names but I recognise faces I am not sure how to attach it here though. Sorry, my technology skills get worse the further I get into retirement. any advice?? Lucky you, living in Dublin. I have not been there for a few years but love it. I usually stayed at a place opposite the Bishops House in Drumcondra but would walk into the city from there. Great place!
well after some searching I found the photograph I was looking for but do not know how to attach it here. There is four boys including yourself, my brother and Dennis Campbell ( Front Street at the Walter Wilson's shop) but I do not know who the fourth is. Thanks for putting me right about the Turners too, time confuses.but I do remember the people shown in the photographs you have posted. I love your sketch of Broompark even down to where the bonfire was built in front of James Street where we lived first. I still see some of the girls from the village - you may remember them, Sheila Hudspith ( Front Street )and Jean and Maisie Clark ( who lived behind us on John Street) Its great looking back to those days.

Hi again patsy. I would love to see any photos you have of Broompark. My dad was regularly in the loves hotel and took his mouth organ and played all the old Irish, Scottish and English songs and they had sing alongs. I also played a bit on the mouth organ and on a few occasions Dad took me into the pub and I had lemonade. If you know how to attach photos to an email you could send them that way. When I first started googling for Broompark I got no leads at all so what I am intending to do is try to get all my posts on Broompark together along with any photos.hopefully more people will find photos and help build an informative site. Will mention you to my aunty Josie next time I see her. Best regards, Ron Nightingale, Mandurah Western Australia.
