It looks like an Ushaw Moor team as I recognise Sid Howard,Buller Garget and Mr Jackson. Mr Howard lived in Whitehouse Court (15) Buller lived in Hunter Avenue and Mr Jackson lived in Oakridge Road. .
I had another look and I think the man standing on the left could Mr Dunn from Ushaw Terrace and for some reason I think the goalkeeper was called Snowden
I have remembered some of the names of the players that used to play in the fifties:Richmond,Blacklock,James,Sharp,Lockey and Percival. My cousin John Graham might Be able to help as his memory is better than mine.Alf R
I'm afraid the strip is alien to me and Idon't remember Ushaw Moor ever having 13 strips and a goalies jersey also where is the legend that is norman gleghorn and jackie o'connor
Frank, Maybe that was why they won the cup playing 13 against 11. I think it was pre Soccer Gleghorn and Jackie O'Connor days I can remember running (training) along the college road with Jackie.. I think that was around 1954.
I would say this team was before 1950.My cousin George Graham played wing half and he is seated next to the goalkeeper on the right. When Durham City started up in the early 50's he went there.I remember Geoff Orr played for Ushaw Moor in the early 50's and he is not on the photo. He too joined Durham.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure thats' an old rugby strip they bought off ebay, the extra men didn't do them much good as most of them were sent off for hand ball.
