A Very nostalgic view as everyone walked along the line at one time or another, but strangely I dont ever remember starting from the station more likely to join it via a field or track
ReplyDeleteThat's right, the "Mill", the "Pond" or down the "Beck" by the Viaduct. The only "Blackberry's" talked about then were the bushes along the Mill to Broompark railway line. Families were always crossing at a weekend going down to the river (Did you go "down the Mill" near the bridge on a Sunday? There would often be around 100 plus people sitting around near the river. I can also recall football games with the "Sleetburn" lads)
ReplyDeleteI never got to ride on the trains but the Big-Meeting trains were often talked about. These were packed with miners on the annual day out, and for most families this was the only "Holiday" of the year.
