Wilf, It was me who sent this one in about Whitehouse Court, please see the 2nd page!!
ReplyDeleteYes Alf I had already twigged my error and had corrected it on the memories page. Sadly I could not alter the generated Facebook page because I do not know how to do that. Your comment at 5.55 will appear on Facebook shortly and that will make it clear to our Facebook readers that you were the author. I am a sad anorak. Apologies. Grovel does not do it. I am at your feet with a cloth to clean your shoes. I am unworthy....
ReplyDeleteMore to the point Alf I think it was right of me to get you up on screen. Brian's article caught the imagine and yours ought to as well.
ReplyDeleteWilf, You are a "southern sofftie" now, saying things like that!!Cheers, Alf . p.s It is me who is taking 15 tablets per day, I should not have reacted!!
ReplyDeleteA little update for the houses 38 - 47, the ones which face Bearpark. Also living at 38 was my little mate Raymond ( Cuggy ) Coulthard. He ran home from school every lunch time and home time via Banaman Bank. At 41 although Alf mentions the name Kirtley my recollections are only of Mr and Mrs Teasdale, their daughter Valerie and the greyhound Ginny, a lovely friendly dog who spent its days going from one house to another. Next door Brian Lumb as well as having a box kite had a sister Audrey. At 41 the first of the Pinkney households, the youngest was Thomas ( Dolly ) and a few years older Neville. Neville married a girl from, Bearpark called Brenda Thornton, I think she had a brother Geordie who joined the police force and I think married a girl called Sylvia Halpin. At 42 was old Mrs Gillon and her son 'Oney' and their little dog. When Mrs Gillon died a family called Albone moved in, there was the father Don, Mrs Albone, Sheila the daughter I recall had bright ginger hair. Later they had a son called Colin who I remember only as a young boy in 1960 when we moved. I often sat chatting to him and was so sad to learn of his early death. Somebody else lived there who never stopped talking about Derby County. (WB) At 43 the second Pinkney family - 'Tot' the father, Mrs Pinkney their two daughters Ann and Doreen and another playmate Dennis. At 44 there was us and at 45 MR & Mrs Olive Brett and their daughter Joyce. They moved when I was very young and the Nattrass family moved in. Alf mentions Sylvia and I think the son was David. There was also little Shiela who I am told blossomed into one of the prettiest maids of the valley. At 46 I recall a lad living there called Stan Avery, not sure if he lived there before MR & Mrs Henderson or if he was related and lived there with them (Anybody know) At 47 the Mcquillans, think Alf mentioned them all except ' Paddy.', the mam was 'Gurty'.
ReplyDeletePeter Clarke can turn it on when he wants to. And he wanted to. So there.
ReplyDeleteDennis Pinkney died in his forties and at least one of his sisters died when a fairly young adult.
Sheila Albone married William Wordsworth from Cumberland - not the famous poet - obviously. They had three children but eventually divorced; she later married a lovely bloke called Alex.
Colin Albone was a very notable cricket player at club professional level. He was forever scoring hundreds against Annfield Plain and on one occasion scored 50 or so against Ushaw Moor in a cup semi-final before helping to beat Esh Winning in the final.
Neville Pinkney got 5 GCE 'O' level passes at school and that was a very notable achievement at the time.
The Derby County fan now follows..... Derby County.
There is some other material on site about Whitehouse Court from various sources; for myself I do not wish to repeat myself too much.
at number 15 whitehouse court Mr and Mrs howard had a daughter called Clarris (not sure of the spelling)
ReplyDeleteHi Peter, I am sure Thomas McQuillan was known as "Paddy". ( May be wrong). Cheers, Alf R
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are bang on there Alf, the lads were much older than me but I only remember there being two, Paddy was just a name that stuck in my mind, he will have been Thomas named after his father.
ReplyDeleteMy grandma and granda lived at number 57 they were called Ellen (nelly) and James (Jimmy) Gillon, children were Shirley, (my mam) Michael, Celia, Pauline and Jim. Im sure they moved there when it was new.
ReplyDeleteI remember Jimmy Gillon he used to be chair man of Ushaw Moor WMC when my father was secretary. Mickey was good footballer.
