Margaret Thingyson
I am trying to find information on my family. My mum is Margaret thingyson and she lived in Bearpark (about 1940 to 1950) in one of the railway houses and went to school at St. Joseph's in Ushaw Moor. Her younger brother was Michael thingyson and he also attended St. Joseph's. Their parents were Frank and Alice thingyson and they worked for LNER at the Bearpark signal box. Alice would do one shift and Frank would do the other shift. Initially I was attempting to find some pictures of Bearpark station but I have found none but I did find the Ushaw website which has some great bits on it. One is a picture of my mum's school class but half the class are missing from the picture (she is one of the missing). I would love to hear from anyone who can remember the thingyson's.

I find this email a little confusing. Margaret and Michael Dixon went to St. Josephs during the years mentioned above and I remember them well. They lived in the Railway house at the end of Aldin Grange Terrace. Margaret was a very pretty girl and Michael was a thick set dark headed lad. Where does the name thingyson come from or does the author not know the real surname? They came to Bearpark from Lanchester if my memory is right. When I come through home I always drive through Bearpark and I often think of Margaret and Michael when I pass the railway house. Did Bearpark ever have a railway station or was the line a mineral line only?
ReplyDeleteI have been on to the Gallery and there is a school photograph with a Michael Dickinson on the photo and I am sure that was the Michael that lived in the Railway House at Bearpark.
ReplyDeleteBearpark did indeed have a station and was built in 1883 but called Aldin Grange but was renamed to Bearpark in 1927. Passenger numbers were always light and the Lanchester Branch saw an early closure, with the last passenger trains running in 1939.

Hi Brian, Thanks for the reply, I have no idea how thingyson was used as the surname, it should be Dickson. My Mother is Margaret Dickson and I have been attempting to find some details about Bearpark station I wanted to find a picture of the station when my Grandad would have worked there. I did find a school photo online and sent it to my Mum, it was of her class but she was not in it for some reason but she does remember some of the names, in fact I think the photo is from you. I also found the school picture which I believe has a young Michael in it - thanks for confirming this. Do you have any more school photos?
